I am so overwhelmed at how amazing and talented people are... The ideas they come up with and seeing their ideas in a visual form. Art is amazing. It's awesome to see what people think, feel, and the ideas they have. We should all spend more time making something, even if it's more a craft. I've been visiting a craft website and I'm in awe of the ideas these people come up with. I'll say it again, they're amazing. Daydream today and make something!

Do you think it works?

Tuesday, March 14, 2006

I got my car inspected today for state inspection, it failed!
It failed because of tinted windows... I want to be back in Orlando where that is not an issue.

Ok, I've wanted to say this for a while, it's really been bugging me.
I think people look so awkward when it's cold outside.
Just picture it, we are all layered up with thick jackets
making our bodies look un-proportionate and then we have
hoods, hats and scarves so our heads blend into our shoulders.
Then our stance is funny because we put our hands in our pockets,
our heads scrunched into our shoulders and walk as fast as we can.
Since our hands are tucked into our pockets and we are so layered
with clothes we can't even walk normal so we look like we waddle.
And just to top it off, since everyone is trying so hard to stay warm,
no one can smile...that makes us look worse!

little cars

Today I got to drive one of the golf carts at reminded me of how much I love to drive little cars...

Some are not cars, but here are the things I'm thinking of:
golf carts - my favorite
bumper cars
paddle boats
go carts (even though I don't think I've been in a real one, just a 'ride' at disney)

I think I would also like riding lawn mowers, but I don't think I've ever driven one (I don't know how that is possible being from Iowa and all the lawn mowing I did). Oh well, does anyone have one and wants help mowing their lawn when the grass starts growing again?

Here is a picture from when I was in Orlando was a fun time!

Becki and I were just laughing at ourselves since we go though bowls so fast! We need to get to IKEA and pick up some more. Anyway, I know this post is not very funny, but if you were here, it would be funny esp. since one of us is eating out of a huge yellow bowl.

Picture of #5

Thursday, January 26, 2006

This is the number on my loom in weaving class... I think it will be my loom all semester. I had no idea when I came into class that first day that I would have that loom for the entire semester. I really like my loom and I think I like the number '5'.
In class the teaching assistant calls the looms by number like it's its name. I think #5 sounds like a good name to me. I'll take a picture of #5 someday soon, so you can all see what she looks like...

work from last semester

Before this semester gets busy with its projects, I wanted to show some from last semester that I never posted.

This is a favorite...even though it's a simple project. If I named this piece it would be: Creation, Sin and Salvation

Not much to say about this... They're symbols of imagination, problem solving, creativity and day dreaming.

Internal Variation __________ External Variation

I love what these exercises were called. It makes me think how internal variation makes an impact, but from the outside (in this case the edges) it's still the same shape. We can apply this to our lives and do some of our own internal variation.

Peanut, Peanut Butter, Jelly!

Ok, this is really just about Peanut Butter... I was having a conversation with someone about peanut butter in ice cream and all of the sudden a light bulb came on...
I said, "peanut butter works with everything!"
The reason I decided this was because I have had peanut butter on some pretty random things before, and it tasted good. I have had it on a hamburger at Jungle Jim's and on a sandwich of pickles and mayo that I ate during track and cross country season. (I don't think it helps runners any more than other food, I think I ate them then cuz a fellow runner introduced me to it.)
So, I was thinking peanut butter goes with everything... I have now realized it may not be great with everything, but it can't be that bad. Either way, I have decided I will try it on the various food below... And, if you are brave, I will prepare one of these for any of you as well... ;)

Things I will try with peanut butter
an omelet
a hot dog
I'm sure there was more to this list... Please comment and add to it!

Napkin longer free?

For those of you who didn't know, now you do... I collect printed napkins. I get them from restaurants, airlines, coffee shops and even gas stations. Ever since I started this collection people ask how I display them, so a few years ago I came up with the idea to make a coffee table that I can display them in. I just bought some of the pieces a week ago and set it up. Above is a picture of the progress. I will be getting legs and paint for it soon. I'm very excited about the table, but it is interesting that one of the reasons I really liked my collection was because it was free! Now I've bought something for a free collection...Oh well, I'm really excited about the table and hope it will be a fun conversation piece in my apartment.

The guy with great hair

Tonight my roommate and I came back from our apartment with my laundry that I couldn't do there cuz we found out our washer is broken, so I had to bring my stuff back and wash it in the dorms. That is only important to say cuz instead of taking the stairs like normal (we live on the 2nd floor) we took the elevator... It was super exciting because we got to see the guy with great hair... Ya'll are probably wondering why we were so thrilled, so let me explain.
He really does have nice hair, it is sort of long and really curly. However, he is also extremely tall that I'm sure everytime he meets a new person they probably comment on how tall he is... So Becki and I have always talked about if we ever see him we won't mention his height to him, instead we will comment on something he probably doesn't hear everyday. Now, I'm sure he hears how curly his hair is sometimes too, but usually after people mention how tall he is. After he held the elevator door for us, I knew I had the opportunity, so I said it, I said, 'you have great hair...' and he said, thanks, I don't do much too it, and I said something else and that I wish I had curly hair. Btw, he was actually having a great hair day tonight too, so the timing was good.

Ok, I could not resist! I think it's funny on the xanga sites how they have these options to tell your viewers what you are 'currently' listening too, watching, or gaming... I don't even know all the options, but do they have 'currently eating'...
(it turned out way better than I thought it would...I'll have to do this more often)

I'm not a huge fan of this holiday, not that I don't enjoy it some, I usually just don't get excited about it. I liked it as a kid because I got free candy but now that I'm older I don't get free candy. Anyway, my church group had a pumpkin carving party and most of us dressed in costumes.

Here is a cute picture of Becki and I.
If you can't tell, she was a bunny and I was a cat.

I'm changing this post a bit so it is less abstract and confusing...
It was inspired after a phone call at work. We deal with a lot of letters and one day a girl read me the letters egv over the phone and they all sounded like 'e'. It made me wonder what letters sound like other letters...This is how I broke them down. This is probably something they teach in elementary school english class but I'm just enjoying it now... See what you think.

Original Post:
This post was inspired after a phone call today at work... We deal with a lot of letters for various things and since I have time at work, I explored this thought.

I love to dance...I think about it a lot and wonder why I like it so much. I really don't think it is just dancing because I really prefer lead/follow dancing. What I really like is being led. It is amazing what the lead can 'tell' me with just the slightest movement. It is a conversation between two people on the dance floor that no one else can hear, but only see the results of it.
